ESC HIGH SCHOOL/CLUB PARTICIPATION PHILOSOPHY

Edmond Soccer Club’s goal is to provide an atmosphere for teams and leagues which among other things may help players achieve their individual soccer goals, including playing the sport for social reasons, maintaining physical fitness, acquiring a college scholarship as well as a variety of other personal reasons.  Consequently, ESC encourages players to make their own individual decisions to play for ESC teams in the recreational or competitive league as well as their high school team, or both.

Regarding soccer players who choose to play both club Soccer and High School soccer simultaneously, ESC believes it is the player’s responsibility to choose and communicate to their respective coaches which team(s) they will play for, how often they can practice, and when they can practice.  Philosophically, the ESC Board believes that in the best interest of the player’s health & safety that one training session per day is sufficient, as student athletes must also manage their time to maintain their academic requirements.  We recommend that ESC coaches encourage and support this philosophy.

ESC believes each player, and his or her family, is responsible for determining how he or she can best achieve their individual soccer goals. The player should make that decision based on input from their ESC and high school coaches, parents, and other trusted advisors, of course taking into consideration that how often they practice or play with either their ESC or high school team may or may not affect their role on each of those respective teams.  ESC encourages any ESC coach, whether they are coaching high school or not, that every ESC player and team should be treated fairly.  Additionally, with consideration of total training time, playing time, personal and team goals that best efforts are made to help facilitate the player in achieving their individual soccer goals.
